As an American, I have never played cricket in my life. I’ve also never watched anyone play cricket, let alone rats. So, Dandy Rat cricket Club is an extremely new experience for me! This game is as the title says – about rats who are in a cricket club and are playing cricket.
Dandy Rat Cricket Club is a pretty out there game, in the sense of the graphic style and the way that you play. You are a rat, often with some stats that you see at the start of the round. You’ll need to wait until the ball comes towards you, then swivel your controller thumbstick, so that you hit the ball, in the right way while using the other thumbstick to line up the shot. Then, you get points for how well your shot is done.

You’ll then go onto other rounds, where sometimes you’ll get cards. These cards change a bit of the game. These sort of power ups can mess with the other team or change how you hit. The whole thing is oddly bizarre. It feels so easy – swing, hit, score, but it’s difficult to actually master the game itself.
I got the chance to play Dandy Rat Cricket Club at Brilliant Indie Treasures, where I found the game to be such an interesting mix of British culture and rats. I do not think I have ever played anything like it – and I’m a not sure if I ever will again. There’s something about the strange graphics, interesting gameplay, and general oddity of this that feels oh so indie.
You can currently playtest Dandy Rat Cricket Club on Steam.
