The Journey to Unity 6
Developing a solo indie game takes years, making engine updates inevitable. For Forsaken, the jump from Unity 2017 to 2021 (and from URP to HDRP) was a nightmare of broken materials and obsolete packages. Naturally, upgrading to Unity 6 inspired dread. Yet, the transition was surprisingly seamless. With just a fewscript fixes, a patched shader, and minor post-processing tweaks, the game was up and running. Unity 6 delivers an impressively stable migration pipeline.
