A few months ago, I picked up this game called 'A House of Many Doors'. And when I say this game is a masterpiece, I mean it.
The idea is that you are living in a parasite dimension (in the sense that it steals things, people, and resources from other worlds) and are trying to find a way out.
And sometimes in choose-your-own-adventure games, you run into the issue of a lack of range in your choices. They're too similar to one another. Not A House of Many Doors. You can make some straight up unhinged choices if you so desire. You can be a total jackass of a captain. Or, you can form close bonds with your crew and help them with their questline. And you don't have to go to either extreme (unless you want to).
The written narration is witty and entertaining, and the writing has this unique visceral quality to it that I've never seen before.
The horror elements are mostly environmental and body horror, with an occasional mild jumpscare here and there.
It's on sale right now for about $3CAD, you can find it on Steam.
